BIG F 2008
Britain's International Guggenmusik Festival 2008
4-6th July 2008
|Saturday night sponsored by: |
This is the BIG ONE! Following the fantastic success of Britain’s 1st ‘Guggenmusik’ festival at Wareham, Dorset in 2006, Gugge2000 and Wareham Carnival are hosting an international music extravaganza once again but this time even BIGGER than the last one!
BIG F 08 is the UK’s Guggenmusik event of the year, don’t miss it!
Featuring bands from Stuttgart, Germany, two from Lucerne in Switzerland (the home of Guggenmusik!) together with Gugge2000 and the only other Guggenmusik band in the UK from Barnsley this will be a festival to remember!
With the bands’ colourful, elaborate costumes and powerful, rhythmic interpretations of well-known pieces, old and new, we promise you an unforgettable and unique experience as over 150 brass & percussion players, the BIGGEST ever gathering of Guggenmusik bands in the UK, come together for a massed band concert during the Saturday evening at Wareham Recreation Ground!
Tickets are just £4 and children under 12 are FREE!! That’s a whole family of four for just £8!!
In addition to the Saturday evening concert, the festival commences with an informal massed rehearsal in the grounds of Corfe Castle (Fri 4th), performances in Bournemouth and Poole (Sat 5th) with a finale explosive extravaganza of Guggenmusik in Bournemouth Square on Sunday afternoon from 2pm– not to be missed!!
Tickets for Sat available on the night or by calling 01929 550818
Unbelievably, this years festival is also part of the celebrations for Gugge 2000's 10th Anniversary so we hope you'll come along and celebrate with us on the 4th, 5th & 6th July 2008.
The full programme of locations and events are still being prepared but definitely include:-
Friday 4th July 6:30pm - 8.30pm in the grounds of Corfe Castle:-
If you love Guggenmusik and can’t wait till Saturday or Sunday you can join us for the Friday night welcome and rehearsal in the grounds of Corfe Castle. Each band will only play for about 15/20 minutes and will not be in full costume but you’ll see how we put the massed band performance together in record time!
Admission is by showing your Saturday night ticket
Saturday 5th July 1pm – 2.30pm approx around Dorset (not final times)
Rumliggeischter & Chottlebotzer at Bournemouth Pier – Guggenmusik is often mayhem so don’t be surprised if the bands are not right by the pier – they do their own thing – that’s the joy and fun of it all!. Don’t worry, you’ll hear ‘em though!
Chaos, Frumptarn & Gugge 2000 in Falkland Square –This is our friends from Stuttgart’s third time in the UK but they have never played to the wonderful audiences in Falkland Square. Frumptarn have, and they want to play there again!!!!
Saturday 5th July 6.30pm – 11pm at Wareham Recreation Ground
Guggenmusik will hijack Wareham’s Saturday night Carnival celebrations!! The bands will have a purpose built stage and designated area for the audience. Stage lighting will create a terrific atmosphere that will be a great evening for all the family.
All the bands will appear in full costume and perform a 30 minute set. The evening culminates in a massed band performance that will include at least 150 musicians!!
Tickets are fantastic value at only £4 and children under 12 are FREE. Tickets available from us at a gig or by calling the Wareham Carnival treasurer Sue on 01929 550818.
There will be a whole host of stalls serving a variety of food plus a huge bar and not only will five great Guggenmusik bands be on display but also we hope to have a special cabaret during the evening as well. Your ticket will also allow you entry to all other areas of the carnival area including side stalls and a fun fair.
Sunday 6th July 2pm – 5pm in Bournemouth Square
Bands will arrive in the Square from all directions and all playing as they parade past each other. Awesome!! Two small stages will be erected for the bands to play on and the afternoon will finish with a massed band performance.
The bands confirmed are:-
Chottlebotzer were our hosts when we visited Lucerne in 2002 & 2004. They also visited Bournemouth in 2002 where they were an absolute hit leaving their mark on us and on the people of Wareham. We hope they enjoy their return to England this year. Chottlebotzer have a unique style and we are confident that this years visit will prove a big hit with our audiences.
Gugge 2000 are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Rumliggeischter to our festival this year. They come from a small village outside Lucerne but are anything but small in number with over 50 members. This band were inspirational in convincing our bandmaster that Guggenmusik could be successful in the UK. Rumliggeischter are guaranteed crowd pleasers - don't miss em!!
Wow, our friendship with Chaos goes from strength to strength and they will be back with us again for their third visit to England following on from successful visits in 2006 & 2007. Gugge 2000 will also be visiting them in their home town of Plochingen near Stuttgart in November this year to help them celebrate their 5th anniversary. We love Chaos's enthusiasm and power. We're sure you'll love em too!!
Frump Tarn Guggen
We are really pleased to invite the only other Guggenmusik band in the UK to our festival this year. We met with them in January and we got on really well. Their home town is Barnsley and the band was started as a result of the towns twinning with Schwabish Gmund Germany. They create a fantastic and authentic Guggen sound that will surprise our visitors from overseas and will delight our audience
Oh – we’ll be there as well, doing our thing. We have quite a few new tunes coming along so if you haven’t seen us for a while…..
Make a note of these dates in your diary now, it's gonna be a weekend to remember!!
